1 p.m. ~ Lunch together at Sumah's West African Restaurant, 1727 7th St., phone 202-462-7309, near the Africare House.  We have the restaurant to ourselves--another fine arrangement by Rufus!   Bring money; it shouldn't be very expensive.  Again, let Char know if you intend to participate and how many will be in your party.

3 p.m. to 8 p.m. ~ Briefing and reception at Africare House, 440 'R' Street N. W. This event is jointly sponsored by Friends of Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone Embassy.  Note that a $20 donation is "suggested."  The briefings will be conducted by key staff from the U.S. State Dept., the Sierra Leone Embassy, and the Peace Corps.  Presentations will begin approximately 3 p.m. The rest of the time will be given over to a reception that will include light food, beer, wine, and soft drinks.  African music will be played, and we will have a chance to mingle not only with ex-PCVs from our own group, but also from other Sierra Leone volunteers. Again, please let Char know if you intend to participate and how many will be in your party, as Friends of Sierra Leone desperately want to know the approximate number of people attending.

Saturday, Sept. 24
2 p.m. to 5 p.m. ~  Brown bag lunch (unless you've already eaten)  at Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church at 1518 'M' Street NW.  (You can check out the church’s website at www.metropolitanamec.org  We will be in the Frederick Douglass Fellowship Hall.  The phone number at the church office is 202 332-1426, if you get lost, are running late, or for some reason need to contact the group. We'll be doing 'This Is My Life' moments, in which we'll each have ten minutes or so to share what has been going on, entertain each other, or just respond to each other’s questions about what we have been doing.  We may have an opportunity to hear Rufus’s poetry, and Char will bring a poem she wants us to share.  Judy and Jim are doing a DVD presentation of things from the past.  Coffee will be served. This event will be our main opportunity to have an in-depth catch up!  The cost is $375, so we will be taking cash donations to compensate the church for the use of their room.

6 p.m.  Visit to Rufus's home and dinner.  ~ Rufus's address is 3807 New Hampshire Ave. NW., and his phone is 202-829-5922.  His home is located near Howard University, one block from the Georgia Ave./ Petworth metro underground station. We will spend the evening visiting, appreciating Rufus’s collection of African art, and simply enjoying ourselves.  Jane Konig, remembering how much we sang in training, has suggested we also have a sing-along  This will be informal; for dinner we'll order in at Rufus's .... be it pizza, Chinese, or whatever.  Again, please bring some cash for your food order.  Our time, in a real home, with dear old friends.  Can't imagine anything nicer!

Sunday, Sept. 25
9 a.m.  Everyone is invited to attend worship service at the Metropolitan AME Church at 1518 M Street NW.  The music ministry is supposed to be spectacular ( and Rufus is in the choir!)  Be advised, however, that the service can last an hour and a half or even two hours.  We might also go out for coffee and doughnuts somewhere afterwards, before people begin making their way back home.

3) Judy and her husband Jim also suggest a possible outing:  Come out to Old Town Alexandria , a short metro ride from DC, and there is a free trolley on King St. from the metro station, giving access to outdoor cafes, inexpensive restaurants, shopping, farmers markets, a park on the Potomac, a jazz club.
